Greece gets knocked out by Argentina in Olympic Basketball

In a very tight basketball game, Argentina knocked Greece out of medal contention by winning 80-78.

The game came down to the final seconds; Argentina was up 80-75 when Panagiotis Vassilopoulos hit a 3 pointer in the last 30 seconds. But as Argentina ran the clock out for their 2 pt lead win.

I think we are all disappointed with this loss. Greece was almost guaranteed to win at least a bronze and now they are going home empty handed. It’s unfortunate because they have so much talent.

Argentina will play the U.S. next.

Greece gets steamrolled by the U.S.

Team USA rolls right through Greece in the Olympic basketball tournament today.  The final score was 92-69.

I actually thought Greece may have had a chance with the US,  but Bryant, Wade and Bosh were on fire. 

USA plays Spain on Saturday; that will be an exciting game.

Greece clobbers Germany in Olympic Basketball

Greece won its 2nd mens game beating Germany 87 - 64.

Greece placed fifth at Athens 2004 and grabbed a silver in the 2006 World Championship.

 After a disappointing fourth place at EuroBasket 2007, just one year after their astonishing victory over the United States in the semifinals of the 2006 world championship, the Greeks earned their ticket for the Beijing Games at home with a dominating performance in mid-July.

Germany didn't make it directly for the Beijing Games at the EuroBasket 2007 in Spain where it finished fifth behind Russia, Spain, Lithuania and Greece. The Germans then went to Athens in July to secure their berth at the Olympics.

 Greece, losing to Spain 81-66 on Sunday, will take on the United States Thursday when Germany, with a 95-66 win over Angola, will encounter Spain.

 

Greek sprinter denied entry in Beijing

Ekaterina Thanou was barred from competing in the Beijing Olympic Games by the IOC.

Back in 2004, she missed the drug testing prior to the games (for the third time) and she was provisionally banned from the Olympics and has since served the ban and has qualified in the 100 meter.

But I guess that wasn’t good enough for the IOC as they denied her entry to games.

Ekaterina plans to sue the IOC. 

Greece leads the pack at 2008 Olympic opening ceremony

Dressed in all white, Greece proudly led the opening march in Beijing.

It seems that white is the latest color trend.  They looked great!  Especially compared to some of the other countries wearing crocs, jean knickers, and ridiculous colored outfits.
