It's business...

Reardo LUKA did not have a chance to play for the senior team at South Melbourne FC in the 2009 season. Better saying it, the club's managers did not give him a chance to play for that team he strongly dreamed and genuinely believed would be involved.

After he broke his leg playing for SMFC in 2007, Reardo worked to prepare himself non-stop in both ways, physically and mentally, to challenge the existing 'high standard in that standard of players' and the 'sharp requirements' for professionalism in this category of soccer, looking forward to a magnificent season with SMFC.

My harsh criticism goes to the club's managers that did not value his huge efforts to recover quickly and his hard work to get back on track for the sake of this club and for sure to give a positive contribution for this club.

Looking after their club’s interests, an interest to gain big things and other profitable deals, momentarily out of reach, the managers ruled out Reardo, demolishing his sincere belief that the club would give him a chance… and if he didn’t work as they expected in the club’s preseason games, he would be out of this squad and surely seek other options.

Now, Reardo has registered himself to play for Werribee Bees SC in 2009, a second division team, as he seeks to gain some ‘confidence’ lost after that terribly bad news from his previous SMFC managers… and by playing close to home, he looks to fulfill his family duties as well.

Good luck SMFC and cheers!

U/21 FOXTEL Cup

SMFC 0 – 3 VIS

On Monday, 24 March, SMFC played VIS at Bob Jane Stadium, a postponed game due to the Formula 1 Grand Prix. As both were equal on the classification with five points apiece, the game was important to gain some positions on the ladder.

VIS dominated the game from beginning to end and created countless clear chances but could not convert more than three times. The SMFC players were slow on the ball, which seemed like it was ‘being played in slow motion’ to the spectators. They made many mistakes and showed no teamwork especially in the midfield sector. By holding the ball unnecessarily, not delivering it at the right time when the attackers requested or passing it in a wrong direction, the SMFC team only created two chances throughout the game.

The first half-finished 2:0 in favor of visitors, with a nice first goal scored, but being gifted a second goal as the ball, which was under the SMFC defender’s control, reached one of the VIS attackers’ foot during his sliding tackle and hit the back of the net by chance. In the second half, VIS scored a plausible goal, as the cross and the header from each player were both hit in perfection.

VIS showed greater talent than the SMFC boys by gaining superiority around the field and were somehow helped by the wrong formation that SMFC played with in this game. Some of the SMFC players were visibly tired and surprisingly in panic whenever on the ball, not marking properly and not following up on their mistakes.

VIS deserved the victory and SMFC should be happy with this result.

SMFC boys have hopefully learned something from their weak performance in this game.  They must be more relaxed, more creative and work as a team if they want to succeed, leaving aside those tendencies shown by some players to earn points for their own interest.

Good luck in the next match.

Friendly game

15/3/2008

A friendly game

The U/21 SMFC boys won 4 - 0 in a friendly match against Kingston SC at The Grange Reserve, Clayton South.

The game started with good combinations from both teams, but sooner SMFC ‘occupied’ the field scoring three goals in the first half.

In the second half, just a goal came up for SMFC, even though the boys created many other chances to deepen the result.

In the last thirty minutes, Reardo LUKA entered the field, giving (during his recovery stage) a better physical performance and somehow showing lovely skills in passing and dribbling compared with his first game.

As the Formula 1Grand Prix already finished and Bob Jane Stadium’s surrounding is not occupied anymore from this event on Monday, 24 March, SMFC will meet V.I.S. (Victorian Institute of Sports) team.

I wish SMFC boys all the best.

U/21 SMFC

U/21 Victorian FOXTEL Cup

 A tough physical game

The U/21 SMFC and Oakleigh Cannons ended the game nil all at Jack Edwards Reserve on 7 March 2008.

In general, the game was not attractive to watch and some spontaneous chances created from both teams did not satisfy anyone. Played mostly in midfield, many mistakes were apparent and a physical performance was dominant.

With this draw, SMFC stands in the fifth position after round four, which until now is a better performance compared with the SMFC team the same round last year.

Reardo LUKA did not play this game as the SMFC coach Slobodan Stefanović rightly considered it a dangerous environment for him during the recovery stage.

On Monday 24 March, SMFC will meet VIS (Victorian Institute of Sport) and the game is predicted to be very attractive as both teams have young talented players and both having five points each.

Round 3, U/21: SMFC 1 v 0 Western Suburbs SC

U/21 FOXTEL CUP – Round 3

3 March 2008

SMFC gets its first three points

On March 2, 2008 under 21 SMFC and Western Suburbs gave the spectators an interesting game for the only reason that the visitors pressure game in the second half proved to be entertaining in their quest to find an equalizer.

In general, the game was not high in standard as many mistakes occurred for both teams. At the beginning of the first half, SMFC dominated the possession and created a couple of clear chances to score. The only goal scored in this half was by Robbie Wyne who converted from close range.

In the second half, the Western Suburbs team dominated and created many chances to equalize, but somehow they were unlucky.

After a long time out of the game, due to a very bad injury, Reardo LUKA was introduced for SMFC. He only played the last ten minutes of the game but still not fit enough to contribute at his best ability for his team.

The match ended 1:0 in favor of the home team, which gave the SMFC boys their first three points of the season, an enjoyable win for the SMFC supporters and a good gift for the new coaches of the squad.
